What is Valeda?

An Innovative Treatment for Dry AMD – No Injections, No Surgery

Valeda is a pioneering, non-invasive therapy for dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), using advanced photobiomodulation (PBM) technology to help protect and revitalise vision. This gentle, pain-free treatment delivers precise wavelengths of light to boost cellular energy, reduce inflammation, and promote retinal health.

For patients in the early to intermediate stages of dry AMD, Valeda provides a new opportunity to slow progression, preserve vision, and maintain independence – all without the need for injections or surgical intervention.

Why Choose Valeda?

Experience the Benefits of Proven Dry AMD Treatment

    • Safe & Non-Invasive – Valeda is a gentle, pain-free therapy with an excellent safety record.
    • Reduced Drusen Build-Up – Helps lessen drusen deposits that interfere with central vision, improving clarity and contrast.
    • Sharper Vision – Clinical studies show meaningful improvements in visual acuity after treatment.
    • FDA-Approved – Valeda is the first FDA-approved, clinically proven therapy for dry AMD.

What is AMD?

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

  • AMD is a common eye condition that primarily affects central vision, typically developing later in life.
  • Risk factors include ageing, smoking, an unhealthy diet, UV exposure, high blood pressure, being overweight, and a family history of the condition.
  • Although AMD does not lead to complete blindness, it can make tasks like reading, recognising faces, and seeing fine details more difficult.
  • Dry AMD usually progresses slowly over several years, while wet AMD can appear suddenly and worsen much more quickly.

Symptoms of AMD

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) primarily affects central vision, leaving peripheral vision intact. It can occur in one eye or both, making everyday tasks like reading, watching TV, driving, or recognising faces more challenging.

Early signs often include a blurred or distorted area in the centre of your vision, which can gradually expand if left untreated.

Other common symptoms may include:

  • Straight lines appearing wavy or bent
  • Increased sensitivity to bright light
  • In advanced cases, seeing images that aren’t there (hallucinations), a condition known as Charles Bonnet Syndrome

As a retired orthopaedic surgeon, I approached my dry macular disease diagnosis with concern. The Valeda light therapy at Peter Ivins Eye Care has been truly transformative. My vision has stabilized, and I feel more confident in daily life. The team's expertise and care have been outstanding throughout the process.

Fergus, Glasgow

A family member was given an emergency appointment after developing an acute eye condition. We had a consultation with Mr Ivins himself - what a lovely gentleman, and very experienced. We're very delighted with the consultation and pleased there was a scanning machine onsite, that allowed Mr Ivins to arrive at a diagnosis. We shan't be going elsewhere in future.
